Welcome to Troop 463!

Welcome to Troop 463. We are a Scout-led, high adventure troop that meets at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church in Sandy Springs, GA. We meet every Monday night at the Scout Hut from 7:00 to 8:30 pm (excluding holidays and special occasions). We are thrilled to celebrate our 52nd anniversary on April 1st, 2017. Troop 463 is a part of the Phoenix district in the Atlanta Area council. Every year the Troop goes on hiking, backpacking, and canoeing campouts. We also attend Summer Camp at Woodruff Boy Scout Reservation as well as several other Scout camps throughout the region. Durning the meetings we have different activities such as: learning new scout skills, merit badge classes, listening to guest speakers, and games that we play as a troop.

A hardy group of Scouts and adults from Troop 463 were at Bert Adams Scout Reservation for 5 days and 4 nights, December 26 to 31. The Scouts camped at one of America's premier camps and worked on earning some of the over 30 merit badges that were offered. In addition, there were games, cracker barrels, "Yukon Quest" (an epic Klondike Derby) that Troop 463 won for the second year in a row, "Chugach Challenge" (for 2nd year winter campers), cold weather camping activities, unique adventure programming, campfires, and Ookpik Overnight.

Merit Badge Counselors

Posted on Dec 8 2014 - 9:51pm

There are more than 130 merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America. A Boy Scout may earn any merit badge he is interested in at any time. The requirements for each merit badge are established by the Boy Scouts of America. To begin work on a merit badge, the Scout talks to the Scoutmaster about his interest in earning a merit badge. He then obtains a merit badge application (the "blue card") from the Advancement Chair or another adult leader. Once it has been signed by the Scoutmaster or his designee, the Scout contacts the merit badge counselor. Merit badge counselors are registered adult leaders with special knowledge in their merit badge subjects.
